On 23 April 2008, I had the honor of watching my son, Kingdon J. Hawes, received a citation from the Omaha Fire Department for "Exceptional Performance" as acting Emergency Medical Service (EMS) shift supervisor during the Westroads Mall shooting that occurred on 5 December 2007 in Omaha, Nebraska at the Von Maur department store.
